About the Bayside Open Space Strategy

What is open space and why is it important?

Open space consists of important non-built space within the Bayside urban environment; including areas such as parks and reserves, the foreshore, sports fields, pedestrian and cycling routes, rail reserves and streetscapes.

Open space is an essential ingredient to our way of life in Bayside. It provides:

  • Places for people to play, rest, walk and cycle - and so can contribute to our health and wellbeing.
  • Places for us to strengthen our connection with others through events and celebrations.
  • Natural settings that allow for the maintenance of environmental quality and biodiversity.

What is an open space strategy?

The Bayside Open Space Strategy will provide a specific framework for how we will use, develop and manage open space in the municipality. The strategy will consider the quality, quantity and accessibility of Bayside's open spaces, as well as the use and development of individual areas. It will consider current and emerging demands. It will result in a set of recommended strategies and actions to ensure that Bayside's open space is effectively managed now and in the future.
